ABOUT GRAY MATTER
THE STORY
Gray Matter tells the story of neurobiologist Dr. David Styles. Since the death of his wife
in a horrible accident several years earlier, Styles has adopted a reclusive lifestyle, spending his days inside his English country estate, Dread Hill House.
Things take a turn for the interesting when American Samantha Everett, student and part-time
street performer, arrives unexpectedly at the estate. Having spend time travelling Europe, performing
magic tricks to make ends meet, Everettdecides a change of pace is in order,
becoming Styles' assistant.
As the game's official press release ponders though, "Is the meeting of Sam and Styles really as
coincidental as it seems?"
Everett starts her role as Styles' lackey by hunting out six test subjects at Oxford University for the doctor's
latest experiment. After an innocent start where subjects are tasked with imaging different forms of physical
exercise, inexplicable events start to occur.
Following visitations by
Styles' dead wife, the quest to uncover the mysteries of Dread Hill House begins.

ABOUT JANE JENSEN
WHO IS JANE JENSEN?
Jane Jensen is the ultimate story-teller. She breathes life into her newborn plot, invents her
characters' ideas and thoughts, creates the time and the place for the adventure, and decides
the destiny of her characters. Jensen revels in creating her story, and in watching it come to life.
She considers herself, at heart, a writer -- a novelist. Her main
literary influences are Stephen King and Anne Rice. She is also
a researcher, putting hundreds of hours into the depth of her stories.
For The Beast Within, the second Gabriel Knight mystery, Jensen
traveled to Germany, the site of the story, to conduct historical research.
She believes this research truly creates the feel for the story, and gives
depth to its realism.
Jensen's technical background began with a degree in Computer
Science from Anderson University in Indiana. Later, she became an
engineer for Hewlett-Packard, and was employed there for six years. Her career in interactive
entertainment began at Sierra On-Line in 1991. Since then, she has had the opportunity to work
on such hit titles as Police Quest 3; Gabriel Knight- Sins of the Fathers; Ecoquest; King's Quest VI
and Pepper's Adventures In Time. As designer of Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers, Jensen was
honored when the game won Computer Gaming World's Adventure Game of the Year and also Best
of Show at CES. This accolade was actually surpassed with her next Gabriel Knight adventure,
The Beast Within, which netted Jane the top honor that Computer Gaming World can bestow: Best overall Game of the Year!
In 1999, Sierra published Gabriel Knight's third adventure, Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned - probably the most esoteric and profound story of the
series yet. Unfortunately, this game was released in a time when adventure games were nearly dead,
resulting in a limited success.
Shortly after, Jane put her energy in writing books like the novelization of The Beast Within and the
psychological thrillers: Millenium Rising aka Judgment Day and Dante's Equation, where she was
honored with
the prestigious Phillip K. Dick award Special Citation .
Since Sierra no longer had an interest in developing new Gabriel Knight games, Jane started her own
gaming company, Oberon Media, publishing small games such as Inspector Parker and Betrapped.
This is when the first ideas for Gray Matter were born. Jane signed a deal with The Adventuregame Company and started designing what was then called "Project Jane-J", which unfortunately got cancelled. However, in the summer of 2006, Anaconda (a German gaming publisher) announced the revival
of Gray Matter, to be published in 2010!
